That last panel for me was a serious chef's kiss.
Fae looking at the blue-green reflection of her own face. Asking her lost brother in vain and desperation a question she will never hear the response to. A true moment that I think Jamil captured perfectly.

Another terrible question to ask: How long *can* she keep doing it?
Does she not have anything else to go back to, or *anyone?*

The sad truth is that Fae and Nell were pretty much clanless in Liren society. They had each other and picked up a Cho. That was their ‘commonwealth’. Without Nell, Fae lost ‘home’.

Is there anything stopping them from taking less dangerous or under the table jobs? Without much context it’s difficult to understand why they don’t use what ever meager funds they have to work minor security gigs like locksmiths and towing/repair. I’m definitely interested and appreciate the story, but without the context of what happened between the accident and now. It’s difficult to not think she brings this onto herself. Especially considering she’s taking her grief out on the only dependable person in hef life. I can’t imagine he’s in a much better position than she is given their shared resources and trauma.

That’s a good point. You have gotten the to the truth of the matter in regards to their situation. The loss of Nell caused Fae to spiral. Taking on more and more risky jobs that only lead to worse and worse outcomes. You’ve actually caught what was in between the lines. These actions and the results are squarely on bad decisions being made because of survivor’s guilt. And yes, when we lose someone, often times, the people we lash out at are the ones closest to us who are also dealing with the same tragedy.
Thank you for highlighting this! 😀 Hope you enjoy the rest. I’ll be interested to see if you can find more story-telling hints that give insight and be happy to acknowledge or disavow them 🙂
