   This really is interesting.
   He clearly knows Fae (and Cho).
   But apparently he doesn’t know Nell, whereas in this timeline, they’ve never been separated…so if he knows the two of them, he should know the third one too.

   Except if this isn’t a different timeline at all, but much rather a case of ‘rewritten memories’.
   I don’t know what the creatures of your universe are capable of, but we’ve already seen a rat that suddenly turned into all kinds of black tentacles, which clearly defied its initial mass. (That is assuming that the infestation was due to the rat).

   Now, if we follow this train of thought, we may be dealing with a rather interesting specimen.
   It connected itself to Fae’s brain, saw the aching longing for her lost brother…and then assumed his shape and identity.
   For this to work, the creature naturally would have had to rewrite the memories of the people who actually knew the dude, but seeing as both of them were right there…well, when something is smart enough to read the memory of someone from another person’s brain, who’s to say what else they are capable of?

   Of course there’s still the whole ‘Fae is in a delirium and dreaming all this’ option on the table. Dolgrun not recognizing Nell may well be her subconscious telling Fae, that ‘this isn’t real’.

   Alternatively, and this is the most trivial of all possible explanations: This is merely a memory of what happened BEFORE Nell fell into the pit.
   Which, of course, doesn’t do much to explain, why Nell has never been with them before then.

      An excellent break down of the possibilities! I won’t spoil what’s going on, as this is part of the whole intrigue, but I’m very glad that you’re picking up the hints and clues I’m leaving behind!
